Brutal timing for Tony Romo

Speaking from experience, there is nothing that nukes a good round faster than a work-related conundrum. That said, I've never been fired on the golf course. Or found out I had "mutually agreed to part ways" with my employer. So I can't quite relate with what Tony Romo dealt with on Friday in Oklahoka.

To be clear, it's unlikely former NFL quarterback-turned CBS analyst found out he was officially splitting with CBS on the golf course. But the rest of the world found out when he was on the golf course, and he just so happened to be playing a pretty important round.

Romo, who was arrested for a DUI in late July while leaving the Wisconsin Amateur Golf Championship, is competing in the third round of Pre-Qualifying for Q-School on Friday. And he actually had a chance to advance, needing only to finish in the top 37. This news dropping mid-round could not have helped the mental state, as Coleman Bentley writes.

Mama Fitzpatrick may have just hit the shot of the tournament. Despite a breakout season for Alex Fitzpatrick and brother Matt enjoying what he called "the best form of my life" leading up to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, it was their mom who hit the shot of the tournament on Friday. Playing alongside her sons in the pro-am, the Fitzpatrick matriach hit this ludicrous fairway metal to three feet, well inside of her PGA Tour-pro sons' respective approaches. Not only was this an incredible shot and a fantastic family moment, but it was also a reminder for all us sons out there that no matter where life takes us, mom always knows best. Watch the shot here.
