“Rigorous devotion” to the art of making

In the earliest manifestos of East Fork,  co-founder, John Vigeland, described our approach as a “rigorous devotion” to the art of making. Fifteen years in, the materials, process and ideas have evolved. But our commitment to craft—both in how and what we make—remains central to what we do. Here are a few recent expressions of that work.

Glaze Chemistry - Water Lily is a reactive glaze—alive with subtle shifts in tone and surface, a result of the creative synergy found between our design and glaze chemistry teams.

Art Meets Clay - The Matisse Collection brings surface decoration into our work in a new way. Each decal is carefully translated from the artist’s original cut-outs and applied by hand, a process that calls for patience and precision.

Glass Reimagined - Our banded glassware draws on centuries-old glassmaking techniques, reinterpreted for modern use. Small bubbles and subtle variations are part of the process, adding intrigue and beauty to each glass.

Through the Lens with Mallory S. and Donnie B.

East Fork’s Senior Content Manager, Mallory S., and Photographer, Donnie B., explore the craft of film photography and how they’ve incorporated the medium into our recent shoots.

“With film, you are not getting that instant gratification. You have  to wait and see what happened. In some ways it's a little more freeing because you're not bound to that moment where you're like, “that’s not exactly what I want.” It’s not perfect, it is what it is, I took it and we'll just have to wait and see.” - Donnie B.
