KEEP ON GROWING
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. But all play and no work makes Jack… unhappy?
Look, we love our leisure time, but there’s just something about a productive day of work that feels really, really good—and we aren’t the only ones who think that way. A substantial body of research suggests that productivity gives you a significant mood boost and makes you feel happier.
Crossing off meaningful tasks releases dopamine—that chemical in your brain connected to your rewards pathway. Those meaningful tasks also tend to be the most challenging. But those challenges force you to grow, which helps build more self-esteem and confidence and helps you feel happier.
And oh yeah, being productive frees up more time for that all-important leisure time.
Essentially, productivity is a triple whammy for feeling awesome.
But there’s a catch—completing a bunch of “busy work” won’t do. It has to be work that you find deeply meaningful, and unfortunately, that can be easier said than done.
So, what do you do if you don’t feel a deep connection to your day job?
• Focus on learning new skills to help you land work that you feel more connected to.
• Commit time to hobbies and side-hustles that you believe in.
• Try new things—you never know what will ignite a spark in you.
Now, go get some things done and Keep on Growing.
