CO-WASHING 101
Does your beard dry out quickly? Or Is your hair wavy, curly, coarse, and always extra frizzy? If so, co-washing might be just what the doctor ordered to help your beard and hair look and feel better.
Here’s a primer to get you started with co-washing today (or tomorrow if you’ve already showered today) using Beardbrand Utility Softener.
WHAT IS CO-WASHING?
Co-washing is short for conditioner washing — the act of skipping the shampoo or beard wash in favor of a conditioning product like Beardbrand Utility Softener.
WHO SHOULD CO-WASH
If you have dry, wavy, curly, coarse, or medium-textured head or beard hair, you should absolutely try co-washing. Your hair needs all the oil it can get, so you don’t want to strip away too much of it by washing it too frequently.
Conversely, if you have fine or overly oily hair, you may want to pass on co-washing as it will just leave your hair flat. If you work a job where your hair and beard get dirty daily, you’ll probably want to skip this too.
WHY IT WORKS
The natural oil (sebum) produced by your scalp and face is important for maintaining the health, hydration, and look of your hair and beard. Washing your hair and beard daily strips away too much of that important sebum (yes, even if you’re using a super gentle cleanser like Beardbrand Utility Wash).
However, Beardbrand Utility Softener contains enough cleansing agents to handle the daily washing duties while still providing moisturizing, strengthening, and softening for your hair and beard.
HOW TO CO-WASH
Don’t wash your hair and beard with Beardbrand Utility Wash the next time you shower. Use Beardbrand Utility Softener as you usually would. That’s all there is to it. Then, every few days, do a deep clean of your hair and beard with Beardbrand Utility Wash.
The frequency in which you do this “deep clean” varies from person to person. Some do it every other day, and some do it every five days. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to co-washing, and it will take experimenting to find what works best for your hair and beard.
