BEHIND THE FRAGRANCE
The beaches of South Carolina were a part of my childhood. I learned about the stories of piracy, war and the life made on those waters.
Black Sails is a nautical fragrance that doesn’t fall into the same tropes as others. I didn’t want to do a “coastal air” or “salt spritz.” I wanted it to represent the realness of those waters.
It had to have a little bit of brine; that funky smell you get when your feet sink deep in the muddy marshes. I wanted a little bit of citrus to fight of the scurvy of being on the high seas. The ambergris from finding a nice chunk of whale vomit out in the ocean. And of course, some booze to help those long days of nothingness pass along.
Black Sails is not a safe fragrance, it’s not a “nice” fragrance; it’s a fragrance you’ll absolutely love, or absolutely hate. It’s not for someone who’s looking for normal, it’s not for someone who needs to blend in. It’s for the man who’s drawn towards adventure realizing that adventure is mostly pain. And through all the uncomfortableness, you find beauty.
That’s Black Sails.
