Meet the Brewers!

There's no TALEA without beer, and there's no beer without brewers! Get to know a few members of our brewing team.

Alex, Production Brewer

How would you describe your job? I do a little bit of everything! I brew, package (fill kegs and cans), and everything in between! The “in-between” is often referred to as cellar work; this includes dry-hopping, cleaning tanks and kegs, adding fruit, centrifuging, monitoring fermentation gravities, and so much more.

How long have you been at TALEA? Five months!

What’s your favorite TALEA beer? Non-TALEA beer? This one is tough…. Right now,

I’d have to say our Montana Vienna lager. I love the story behind it, and the fresh Vienna malt makes a big difference! It’s also been my go-to shifty for the last month. I have to go with 2 here: it’s a tie between Suarez Family Brewery’s Ms. Frank kellerbier and Russian River’s Velvet Glow helles lager. I’m never not in the mood for either of these, and they’re equally crushable and tasty!

Josh, Production Brewer & Innovation Lead

How would you describe your job? Most of my days consist of brewing on our 20 barrel brewhouse, managing our sensory & hop program, designing recipes, and staying on the pulse of all things hops. One of the more fun things we do is play around with beers on our 1 barrel fermentors. I have learned so much about ingredients and flavor in beer from those experiments. We all do a whole lot of everything around here!

How long have you been working at TALEA? I started working at TALEA as a bartender in 2021. Worked pretty hard to make it onto the production team.

Favorite TALEA beer? Non-TALEA beer? Frostie is my favorite since we only get to brew it once every two years. Fresh Coast is my favorite regularly available TALEA Beer. Highland Park in LA is one of the best breweries in the country and Timbo Pils always inspires me to make better hoppy beers.

Where are you heading for a bite and a beer in your neighborhood? Living in Ridgewood, Queens makes this a tough question to answer. My favorite bar is going to be Aunt Ginny’s–feels like a second home now. Just divy enough for me and bomb food. Restaurant-wise, the only right answer is Rolo’s. I’ve gone there for every single birthday since they opened. They don’t need any more praise, though, so my answer to this is Mano’s (Best Slice in all of NYC) & Mini Mart, a super small but mighty Japanese-style market. The katsu and burritos are not to be missed. And no trip to Ridgewood is complete without it!

Eric, Head of Production & Special Projects

How would you describe your job? I try to make sure everyone has what they need to do their job safely and effectively. I get to work directly on a lot of the experimental, tribute, collaborative, and one-off beers that we put out.

What’s your favorite TALEA beer? Non-TALEA? That’s a seasonal question. Right now, I'm loving Montana, and I’m excited about the development we've been doing with our hoppy Lagers like Fresh Coast.

brewery, which it usually is between June and September, the only thing I'm going to want is whatever Crush we have on draft. It's like brewer Gatorade. Outside of TALEA beers, I go for a lot of Coors Banquet, Guinness Extra Stout, and Yuengling. If I'm at another craft brewery, I'm ordering whatever you've got in an amber/red direction.

Where are you heading for a bite and a beer in your neighborhood? I live in the amazing neighborhood of Bay Ridge in southern Brooklyn. We don't eat out a lot but love going to Al Aqsa Bakery for the best pita and hummus, Kettle Black for wings, Krispy Pizza in Bensonhurst (even before they got internet famous). There's a TALEA account, Coszcal de Allende, down the street from us that is also pretty great.
