Google goes nuclear
Happy Tuesday, legends. Welcome back to another edition of The Frontier, our weekly newsletter covering the best new AI launches on Product Hunt.
WHAT'S HOT
⚡ Google is buying 3,590MW of power from Constellation Energy. 890MW of it comes from upgrading eleven existing reactors in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, so no new reactor gets built, the old ones just get better equipment and give up more. More than $4.3 billion of investment, and the first upgraded plant delivers in 2028. (Data Center Dynamics)
🧠 Mistral previewed Large 4, a trillion-parameter model it has nicknamed Le Chonk. 49 billion parameters active per token, a million-token context window, natively multimodal, trained end to end on 3,800 Grace Blackwell GPUs in Mistral's own European data centres. Weights land at the end of October. (MarkTechPost)
🔐 Meta and Sierra published a standard for how your agent logs into a shop. The Personal Agent Protocol is OAuth with tiers: an agent browses as a guest to check stock or a returns policy, and once you sign in you decide whether it gets read-only or write access. Walmart, Shopify, Stripe, Rocket, Genesys and Instinct are founding partners, with a v0.1 spec due this month. Shopify and Stripe have also joined Visa's rival protocol. (TNW)
⚖️ The Eighth Circuit paused Minnesota's nudification ban after xAI challenged it. The law took effect on 1 August and bars software from generating realistic intimate images of an identifiable person. xAI argues it restricts protected speech, the district court refused relief twice, and the appeals court granted it in a one-sentence order with no reasoning given. (Minnesota Lawyer)
🤖 Anthropic widened its Cyber Verification Program into three tiers. Project Glasswing has been folded in, and the tiers cover security professionals and incident response teams who need access the general consumer terms do not allow. (Anthropic)
Google Cloud Run is on the board
You might have noticed the leaderboard's new look. We've partnered with Google Cloud Run, and their team is on Product Hunt this week reviewing launches, asking questions and scouting builders. It runs to the Cloud Run Hackathon on October 14: deploy your product on Cloud Run, launch it here that day, and you're in. Winners get $500 in Google Cloud credits, a chat with the Cloud Run team and promotion on Google Cloud's channels, and everyone taking part gets $50 in credits while they last.
The week in products
FROM THE FORUMS
💸 Surprise bills from AI tools
Ayush woke up to a ₹2,030 bill for 250GB of disks his agent had quietly switched on twelve days before.
🤖 ChatGPT names your competitor
Artem says go and ask it for the best tool in your category and see who it names.
🧾 Cheap tokens, expensive habit
GPT-6.1 Sol came in at $2 in, $10 out. Mona's point is that cheap context is how you end up oversharing.
🔓 What to check before real users
Admin routes still reachable, keys in the frontend, database rules never closed since the prototype.
📬 An inbox cut from 92 to 2
Hisashi runs ten products on his own and reads every support email. One press release buried him.
