It was shoulder season, early spring if I remember correctly. My friend and I had run up to a ridgeline and crested straight into a full jet stream of wind. We giggled as we tried to hear anything the other yelled, ultimately resorting to hand signals and charades to communicate that we needed to run quickly. We zipped up our Houdinis, hunkered down and ran to the soundtrack of whipping fabric and snapping hoods. It was one of those days you might not easily volunteer to do again, but look back on with a smile.
