1979: One of the greatest amateur golfers, Chick Evans, passed away at 89. A World Golf Hall of Fame inductee, Evans was the first amateur to win both the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur in the same year (1916). In 1960, he was awarded the Bob Jones Award by the USGA. His Evans Scholars Foundation, founded in 1930, still offers college scholarships to qualified caddies. 2019: Pat O'Sullivan passed away at 93 in Connecticut. A lifelong amateur, Pat won the 1971 Titleholders Championship, then a major championship.
