1884: Jack Simpson fought windy conditions and more to win The Open Championship. He defeated Douglas Rolland and Willie Fernie by 4 strokes. 1934: Harold Henning was born in South Africa in a family where all his brothers—Allan, Brian, and Graham—went on to become pro golfers. Nicknamed ‘The Horse,’ Harold went on to win 43 professional titles, including two on the PGA Tour. 1959: Fred Couples, aka ‘Boom Boom,’ and the winner of 15 PGA Tour titles, was born in America. After developing his signature loose, rhythmic swing—that you can check out here—in the same place his father, Tom, worked, Couples turned pro in 1980 and won the Masters 12 years later. 1992: Angel Yin was born in the U.S.A. Yin plays on both the LPGA and the Ladies European Tour, winning three times in total.
