Hiii there,
One cup of kasha (buckwheat, in Ukrainian) lasts you all week, it’s a great base for any kind of bowl, it’s a complete amino acid profile, you can eat it hot or cold…I’m obsessed. I’ve always eaten it. Everyone should. I’m shocked they don’t have it at the Erewhon hot bar.
I bring it up because I’m finding myself easing back into healthy routines I actually love, like eating lots of kasha, as fall comes on. It all started with my dog. He was so dysregulated and stressed all summer—I was going through grief, and routines became too much to keep up with. He started reacting to everything, tons of barking. And then my trainer told me he needed rules and structure just as much as we all do.
As I built structure back into his life, the same energy trickled into mine. I’m cooking again, reigning in the Postmates orders (the $ build up!!), and leaning on seasonal produce like butternut and kabocha squash, green beans, and kasha. Making my own lattes at home, too—I just got an espresso machine and want to start making almond milk from scratch. I’m playing a LOT of online chess. And enjoying cozy stuff, like the transition from cold white wine to burgundy, as the weather starts to cool off.
And then, of course, is my nightly Mini Dew and Magnesi-Om. I like watermelon and blue lemon, stirred in two separate glasses with a very long, very pretty golden teaspoon. It keeps me hydrated and regular. And it’s one healthy ritual that’s attainable even on the craziest days.
