Georgia school shooting triggers fears for a new school year
At least four people died and nine were wounded in a high school shooting in northwest Georgia on Wednesday, with a 14-year-old suspect taken into custody. After the latest chapter of America's gun violence crisis, people gathered at a sports field outside Apalachee High School, some forming a circle with their arms linked. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said there was no immediate word on a motive. After the all-clear was given, parents were invited to the school to be reunited with their children.

US Steel warned Wednesday it could shut its headquarters and factories in Pennsylvania, a key swing state in the upcoming election, if a takeover by Japan's Nippon Steel is blocked. Economists stated that the nation's GDP over 2025-26 would benefit from Harris' new spending and expanded middle-income tax credits that are expected to slightly more than offset lower investment due to higher corporate tax rates.

NASA admits 'tension' with Boeing over ISS

NASA admitted on Wednesday there was "tension" with Boeing execs about how to bring home two astronauts stranded on the International Space Station, but denied reports of shouting matches. NASA is enlisting SpaceX to rescue the astronauts because of safety concerns with Boeing's Starliner capsule, which suffered thruster malfunctions and helium leaks on its way to the orbital outpost. Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams launched in June for what was meant to be a weeklong stay, but they now aren't expected back until February 2025.

US close to selling new missiles to Ukraine

The U.S. is reportedly close to a deal to sell Ukraine long-range missiles that could hit deep inside Russia. The deal would provide Lockheed Martin's Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles (JASSMs), which Ukrainian officials claim could be a game-changer in their bid to fend of Russian attacks on their own soil. The calls for approval come after a bombardment that killed more than 50 in Poltava on Tuesday. The missiles would be part of a weapons package sent this fall.

'Walz's for Trump' throws candidate a curve

An image showing extended family members of Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz wearing pro-Trump shirts circulated on social media on Wednesday. The photo showed eight of Walz's family members showing off their support for former president Donald Trump by wearing a T-shirt that says "Walz's for Trump." According to the Daily Mail, they are related to Walz through his grandfather's brother.
