Israel vows retaliation for Iranian attacks

Israeli officials are warning that Iran is poised to receive a response after Tehran launched hundreds of missiles at the country on Tuesday. "We are prepared to respond," said an army spokesperson, who added that a "targeted response" is already underway. Spokesperson Daniel Hagari said Israel is "on high alert both defensively and offensively." "We will defend the citizens of the State of Israel," added Hagari, who said the military has "plans" and will respond at a time and place of its choosing. Iran said it launched the attacks in retaliation for the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah.

The state's voter registration deadline is Oct. 11 and in-person early voting starts Oct 17.

California schools ban sugary cereals, sodas

Froot Loops mascot Toucan Sam will have to follow his nose out of California school cafeterias due to a new law that prohibits students from being served or sold food colored with artificial dyes. In addition to the sugary breakfast cereal, the bill bans vividly hued snacks including Flamin' Hot Cheetos, Pop-Tarts, Skittles, M&Ms and Mountain Dew. The law, which takes effect Dec. 31, 2027, targets food items made with the dyes Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Blue 1, Blue 2 or Green 3.
