Calls grow for Venezuelan election results

Venezuela's opposition on Sunday backed international calls for the results of the disputed presidential election to be published, as the Pope urged Venezuelans to "seek the truth" and avoid further violence. A growing number of nations, including the US and Argentina, say the election was won by opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia. EU states France, Germany, Italy and Spain are among those asking for transparency, calling on authorities to release detailed vote tallies.

Debby takes aim at Florida Gulf, East Coast

Tropical Storm Debby tore across the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday, fast strengthening and moving towards Florida's Big Bend, where it is expected to make landfall today as a Category 1 hurricane. The National Hurricane Center stated that Debby, which became the fourth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, is expected to bring intense rain and coastal flooding to a large portion of the Gulf Coast before crossing into the Atlantic Ocean and stalling near the Carolinas.
