goop - the thursday newsletter

We tend to think of estrogen as a reproductive hormone, but it also plays a profound role in how the brain functions. It’s deeply neuroprotective, supporting dopamine and serotonin signaling, working memory, executive function, and our natural defenses against anxiety. So, when it starts to fluctuate, it can affect how we focus, organize, and cope with stress.

In this week’s newsletter, we asked leading experts in reproductive psychiatry, menopause, and ADHD to help us understand what is going on. One psychologist describes the feeling as having 17 browser tabs open at all times and no idea which one to focus on. They explain why ADHD is so often missed in women, particularly high-functioning women who have spent decades compensating through structure, perfectionism, and overachievement.

For anyone who has reached midlife and wondered, what is going on with my brain?, this is a clarifying read.

Love,
Gwyneth

who - Lauren Ceravolo, senior director, strategic partnerships and sales

what - A laid-back Mediterranean beach that captures the quieter, more under-the-radar side of southern France

where - Plage du Pradon, Carqueiranne, France (Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur)

the details - While many are familiar with popular summer destinations like Saint-Tropez in the Var, take a detour and discover less-crowded, more relaxed destinations, including the stunning Îles d'Hyères and Porquerolles (you'll need a boat or a bike), Presqu'île de Giens (with the newly renovated Hotel Le Provençal), the medieval town of Hyères, and Bandol with its famous AOC wines. For a beach day, head to Plage du Pradon, Carqueiranne’s largest natural beach, with fine sand, tide pools carved into the rocks at its edges, and a promenade above for taking in the whole cove before heading down.

Take a detour to Plage du Pradon, Carqueiranne's largest natural beach, with fine sand, tide pools carved into the rocks at its edges, and a promenade above for taking in the whole cove before heading down.

field notes - Stay through sunset for apéro and a spritz at one of the beachfront restaurants, post-beach hair and sandals very much encouraged. For a fancier dinner with a Mediterranean view, book a table on the terrace of L’Oursinado in Le Pradet, set cliffside through the forest.
