What is confidence for you? 

It’s being wedded to the truest you. No spaces between the absolute essence of who you are and how you feel about yourself. It’s hard to explain. Like complete alignment. No doubt about the fullness of all of you, every part, light and dark. Not letting the idea of mistakes or failures or hurts derail you. Telling yourself, “I love allllll of you, come what may. I’m not letting anything get between us.” 

Beach or mountains? 

Beach!

Can you do a podcast episode with your five lifetime/oldest best friends? Can you have your brother on your podcast? 

Yes! I asked my goop pod team to set these up. 

How do you keep your body skin smooth? 

This is the duo for baby-soft, insanely smooth skin. Use the exfoliating Microderm scrub all over your body in the shower, dry off, then put on the body oil, which sinks right in. You’re going to be obsessed. 
 
We also carry a relatively newer bodywash from Nécessaire that may be of interest. It’s made with four powerful minerals (magnesium, zinc, Epsom salt, and silica), as well as niacinamide, to help restore and replenish skin. The scent is also beautiful (sandalwood with notes of iris, black pepper, and suede). 

What time do you go to bed and wake up? 

Usually in bed by 8:30 to watch a show. Awake by 6:30 usually.  

Thoughts on purchasing the same piece in multiple colors? 

I definitely do this when I find something I love. Like this sweater, which comes in cream and navy. And the Hostess Dress, which comes in black and natural linen. 

What advice can you give to someone following their passion in the wellness and beauty industry? 

I am a strong advocate of anyone following their passion, to the extent that they have risk tolerance around outcomes. Life truly is short; it whizzes by. The idea that we could fill our days with work that fills our souls is a lofty goal, not always practical or achievable. And work is sometimes just that. Work. But there is always space for invention, new points of view, and product in the beauty and wellness space. 

Where to eat in NYC? 

I recently went to Penny, which was fantastic, and dying to try Le Veau d’Or.

Everyday makeup? What mascara do you use?  

I’ll answer the second question first. I’ve tried so many conventional mascaras over the years (or had them applied to me), and at this point, I’ve tried nearly every clean mascara on the market. The new Featherlash Lifting Serum Mascara beats them all, hands down. It’s like skin care for your eyelashes. It supports lash health. And it gives you inky-black, super defined, lifted, and lengthened lashes—but it looks so natural on. 
 
That’s pretty much what I want out of any kind of makeup—for it to actually be good for the skin, for it to be simple to apply, and for it to look natural (or be easy to build when you want to go bigger for something special). This is a nice starter kit for all of that because it includes an antioxidant-infused bronzing gel and a moisturizing blush, plus the water-cream with a satin-matte finish that works so well under makeup. But also, you can’t go wrong with this French-girl-inspired makeup trio (which includes my mascara). 

What are three good everyday tops? 

For a year-round everyday blouse, this crisp white cotton poplin top from G. Label is so elegant and cool. I would say a quality Henley is a layering piece that pays dividends. And then for a casual but beautiful tank, how about Toteme’s scoop-neck, done in a woven stretch jersey. 

What podcast are you listening to right now? 

Obsessed with Death of an Artist, season two, about Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner. 

What book are you reading right now? 

All Fours by Miranda July. 

Where can I order that goop sweatshirt? 

Right here. I know this phrase gets overused, but this sweatshirt is actually an easy one to dress up or down. I’ve even worn it before with a leather skirt and heels. 

Heels or flats? 

Despite the above comment, it’s going to be flats for me. This is a good edit of flats if you’re looking—Mary Janes, loafers, ballet slippers, Birks, etc. 

Do you take hormone replacement therapy? 

I do. I tried to take other routes, but it wasn’t worth the suffering. And after all the research I have done and the many cutting-edge MDs I have spoken to, I feel good about my protocol. (Dr. Taz is a helpful resource to listen to or read from, as you talk through this with your own doctor.) 

What is your hair-care routine? 

I’m not just saying this: I love all the goop Beauty hair products. So much. Our PD team nailed these formulas. I use the shampoo and conditioner every day. I’m also a big believer in Crown Affair (so much so that I invested in the company). If you want to make a little more of your routine, try their microfiber waffle towel to help your hair dry faster, softer, smoother. And a requisite hair purchase if you haven’t bought them yet (or been gifted them at a goop event), Slip’s silk hair scrunchies. Last, something unique to consider, which happens to be exclusive to goop, this simple-to-use bond-repair hair treatment from Epres (the founder is a chemist with more than 100 patents in bond-repair tech). 

Do you use a flatiron for your hair? 

Sometimes, or it’s done to me. Are you looking for a flatiron? This is the one from hairstylist Harry Josh. This is also a good option, slightly less expensive. 

Recommendations for finding a quality functional medical practitioner? 

It can be tough. I wish there were more functional medicine practitioners, and more functional MDs specifically. Our senior science editor did a story on how to find one. One thing that I’ve found to be encouraging is that many “conventional” MDs that I speak with, or go to myself as a patient, seem to be operating with more of a functional medicine mindset today—in that they are looking at your health holistically and really trying to home in on the root cause of illness. 

Favorite karaoke song? 

Anything Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, or Lauryn Hill. 

Favorite perfumes? 

I’ve talked about my love for the brand Vyrao before but maybe not this scent, called The Sixth, which is a bit newer. It’s such an enchanting fragrance, and you need to see how chic that glass bottle is—with a diamond crystal in it! I’ve also been a fan of Douglas Little’s and Heretic’s for a long time. 

Best tinted moisturizer?  

Perhaps the gel-cream with copper peptides from Kosas. Or the Tower 28 sunscreen foundation if you want it to double as your daily SPF. 

Prints to wear now? 

Lots of good options. Let me try to narrow it down to a couple of brands. From Australia, ALÉMAIS feels like the It brand this summer. Whimsical, a bit unexpected, very cool. For example, this embroidered midi dress, this expertly tailored shirtdress, or their linen button-down. Or you could do something a little more classic and feminine, like a tiered Ulla dress or ruffled floral top.
