I never feel more gratitude for the life I have than when I am in my Montecito garden. Plants that bear fruit feel like a miracle. The idea of walking through rows of plants, gathering their offerings, and being inspired to make food for the people I love is basically my idea of heaven.
The first iteration of our garden was designed by a legendary garden designer, who sketched a rough layout and was kept at bay by Covid when the planting happened. Many liberties were taken, and the vision became abstracted. Enter the extraordinary Christine London, who did our garden in Los Angeles. She turned our suburban patch of grass in LA into an unwinding and poetic space, replete with olive trees, wildflowers, rambling roses, and a small fountain. I thought she would be the perfect person to unleash the potential of our Montecito garden, and that she did—adding more bays for vegetables, a path through the olive trees, a magical outdoor dining space, and lots of stone fruit yielding saplings that will grow to tower over us in time.
This week, we’re sharing an exclusive tour and images of the garden, so you can enjoy a glimpse of this special place. Love, Gwyneth
