When you're in the fairway, just short of the green, it’s tempting to opt for a bump-and-run or even a putt. That’s often the right play, says Golf Digest No. 1 Teacher in America Mark Blackburn, but pros know it doesn’t work in every situation. If the pin is cut just onto the green or the grass is wet, they carry the ball onto the putting surface for consistent results and then use height and spin to stop the ball.
You can hit this higher, spinnier shot, too. The key, Blackburn says, is to have this one focus as you swing through the ball. It’s the go-to swing thought to unlock spinnier chips.
