In the slower months following the winter holidays, we feel relief from the demands of the season. Maybe we’re finally able to crack open that novel sitting unread on the shelf. Maybe we’re paring down our dinner routines to cook simple meals by memory rather than recipe. Or, perhaps we’re taking long, chilly hikes on a mountain trail under bare tree limbs humming with promise.
While we’re slowing down, we’re choosing to revisit “Black Mountain: The People Who Fed Me,” by Dr. Cynthia Greenlee, the powerful, first installment of a three-part series originally published when core colors Black Mountain and Blue Ridge joined our lineup, honoring East Fork’s home in Southern Appalachia.
