Trial by Fire - The Vigeland Kiln, First Firing Available Online Today at 11am ET

“It’s labor intensive, but it’s also rewardingly unabstract and materially embodied. To me, it’s really satisfying to know a process with your body
that way.” - John Vigeland on the Wood-Fired process

While similar in shape, no two pieces are exactly alike in color and form.

A Maker's Markings - Maker's marks, or potter's marks, go back thousands
of years to ancient civilizations. A signature of the artisan, they symbolize time, place, and ownership
of the work.

“The idea was that we would do the two things—wood-firing and gas-firing—in parallel,’ says Vigeland, ‘but the factory was enough work to keep up with that we ended up never firing the wood kiln again, which wasn’t the plan.” Also not in the plan was John’s assumption of the role of Chief Financial Officer at East Fork Pottery, which happened swiftly with a single NC Department of Revenue filing. He would not return to a wood-fired practice for eleven years. - -Excerpt from The Long Way Home, East Fork Journal
