On Mothering

Mon 2:00 PMbrightland
Hi none,
Mother's Day is coming up, and I've been thinking a lot about what "mothering" actually means, who does it, who receives it, and what it looks like when it doesn't quite fit the greeting card version of things.
There's mothering that looks like the obvious thing: a woman and her child, and there's also the others: the friend who always seems to have soup in the freezer when someone is sick, the sister who remembers every birthday without fail, the colleague who helped you through something difficult. And there are the two dogs (Madison and Crosby <3) who mothered me through these last few years, and who I still miss every single day!
Recently, I’ve realized that mothering is a verb more than it is a title. It is the small, specific, unshowy work of making someone feel held, and once you start looking for it you really do see it everywhere. It’s an energy imbued with love and creates the beating heart of home. (As an aside - this feeling was our inspiration for our very special Mother’s Day gift set in collaboration with iconic fashion brand Hill House Home.)
So this Mother’s Day, whether you are a mother, or someone who mothers, or someone who has been mothered along the way, I hope you feel it. In your honor, we've put together a gift guide with favorites to nourish you daily, and we're offering 20% off all gift sets with shipping that will arrive with plenty of time for Mother’s Day.
And if there is a person (or a dog, or a memory) you want to reach for this week, please reach out – Tell them, call them, light the candle, pour the oil with a heavy hand!
Warmly,
Aishwarya
P.S. we made a short film for Mother's Day, honoring the mothering that teaches us to find beauty in the small moments - lessons that we carry into our own journeys. My little one had a blast filming it. Watch it here.
