WHY WE GROW
Globally, men live six fewer years on average than women. We know it’s grim to bring this up — but many of the reasons for this shorter lifespan are preventable.
Let’s break it down:
• According to the American Cancer Society, about 42 out of 100 men living in the US will develop cancer at some point during their lifetime.
• The five most common cancers in men are prostate cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, and skin cancer.
• Suicide remains a leading cause of death, and the suicide rate for men is 4x higher than women.
Look, these numbers suck, and they aren’t fun to talk about — which is why it’s critical that we do. And two great organizations helping to lead the charge in lowering these numbers are No-Shave November and Movember.
Growing a beard or mustache in November is a great way to raise awareness, but positive change also requires action. Regular health screenings increase the likelihood of early detection of cancer, significantly increasing the chances of whipping cancer’s ass. We also created the Beardbrand Alliance to help bring together a community of over 6,000 fellow growth-minded men, and that community is growing every day.
So this November, whether it’s for your fellow man, your family, your community, or yourself — Keep on Growing.
PS: If you’re growing a beard from scratch this November, be on the lookout for tips and tricks to get you through the first month of growth. We’ll be sending them out weekly, starting this week.
