HOW TO HANDLE FLYAWAYS
Flyaway hairs are the bane of bearded existence. They make your beard look disheveled, and even when you think you’ve got them under control, they always seem to find a way to pop back up.
But if you're trying to grow a longer, fuller beard, trimming your flyways is the equivalent of taking two steps forward and one step back. And in most cases, those flyaways just need to grow long enough to let gravity do its thing and help them lay flat.
So, what can you do instead of trimming every time flyaways pop up?
1. HIT THE SHOWERS
In some cases, a little bit of hot water and steam is all you need to get those flyaways to lay flat. That said, dryness is one of the biggest contributors to getting flyaways in the first place, so you don’t want to overdo it on the washing. Remember, washing your beard too frequently can actually dry out your beard (leading to even more flyways problems). And if you’re not doing so already, keep your beard hairs extra hydrated with Beard Oil or Beard Balm.
2. STIFFEN UP
For stubborn flyaways, there’s nothing like a stiff boar’s hair Beard Brush. Boar hair is similar to human hair, allowing the bristles to work through your beard without damaging the hair follicles. When you brush with a stiff-bristled brush, it puts a little more tension on those beard hairs, helping them get in line more than a comb. Just don’t overdo it because over brushing can cause damage to the beard hairs.
3. MUSTACHE WAX HACK
If you’re dealing with extra stubborn flyaways or are on the go, try the mustache wax hack. Scrape off a very tiny amount of Beardbrand Mustache Wax and apply it to the unruly hair. Then brush it into place. Mustache wax offers more hold than any other Beardbrand product and is easy to keep in your pocket.
4. EMBRACE THE CURL
If your beard is curly by nature, trying to make it straight is a surefire recipe for flyways. Instead of fighting your beard, embrace and enhance the curls of your beard. Try using a soft cloth or t-shirt to dry the hair instead of a towel, gently scrunching your beard to help the curls form.
So the next time you reach for the scissors to trim your flyaways, put these techniques to the test and Keep on Growing.
