SALUD, from the Schumacher archives.

SALUD is a playful update on a 1950’s Schumacher archival design of french liquor labels in the same name. This storied design, featured in the 1995 Cooper Hewitt exhibition - Kitsch to Corbusier: Wallpaper from the 1950's, highlights multi-colored hand-illustrated liquor labels in a graphic layout.

We added some playful updates, such as flowers over Napoleon's eyes, as well as a few other surprises.

KITSCH TO CORBUSIER

In the 1950s, wallpaper trends showcased arrangements of collectible objects, like liquor labels. SALUD features liquor labels in a trompe l’oeil style, casting shadows as if on display. The original naming "Salud" adds an interesting layer, referencing Prohibition when medicinal liquor was available with a doctor's prescription.
